ALWAYS Look a Gift Horse in the Mouth

December 5, 2019

Kent Weimer

Why come? You need to recognize the warning signals to watch for when gifts come with restrictions or require extra work by your organization’s staff.

Who should attend? Everyone who takes part in gift acceptance discussions and decisions.

What you’ll take away: • An understanding of the long-term and legal side effects of restricted gifts. • A library of helpful words and phrases to use in difficult conversations. • Confidence to decline gifts that really are more trouble than they’re worth.

Kent Weimer is Director of Trusts, Estates & Gift Planning at Parkland Foundation where he works with donors and their advisors to make estate gifts, create endowments or make donations with assets other than cash. His extensive expertise in institutional advancement comes from 40 years of experience in community based health care, higher education, cultural institutions, international healthcare, youth development and social service organizations. Kent has been actively involved in CGP for 17 years including incoming CGP Chairman beginning in January 2020.  He also has served in leadership roles at the Chicago Council of Planned Giving and the Dallas Council of CGP, where he is a past president.
